Wisdom Teeth Assessment in Rockville, MD
Treatments to Relieve Your Discomfort
The final set of teeth for teens or adults to erupt into place are the 3rd molars – better known as “wisdom teeth.” These teeth sometimes create problems for certain people, usually due to lack of space throughout the jaws, or difficulty keeping them clean.
Some of the common complications that our patients experience include problems like:
- Impacted teeth
- Crowding, due to pressure
- Pain, swelling, or sore jaws
- Tooth decay
- Food packing under the gums
As the wisdom teeth push their way in, they often become impacted against the teeth just next to them, due to limited room in the mouth. Or, they may only partially erupt – leaving a small portion of the tooth visible above the gums. This condition allows food and debris to enter under the gumlines, causing infections like abscesses or decay.
Removing your 3rd molars can help you to avoid these problems or prevent them from occurring.
Assessing Your Smile
Our dentists will evaluate your 3rd molar development by taking a panoramic x-ray of your teeth and jaws. This image shows us where the teeth are lying in relation to the rest of your smile. Because the wisdom teeth usually grow slowly over several years, we may monitor them from a person’s mid teens into their late 20s!
Should we recommend having your teeth removed, we perform most extractions here in our Rockville office. Oral sedation and nitrous oxide keep you relaxed during your entire visit, so you don’t have to feel nervous about discomfort. We’ve performed thousands of wisdom tooth removals here in our office, so you’re in great hands!
If you’re in pain or want to see if your wisdom teeth are healthy, call our office today to schedule a complimentary evaluation. Ask us about our comfortable and gentle Tooth Extraction service. We’ll be more than happy to answer any questions that you have.
